Nissan JUKE Nismo Concept: One Auto Show Closer to Hitting Showrooms in 2013

Perhaps you've seen the edgy Nissan JUKE CUV cruising around the streets of South Burlington, Burlington, Essex, or Plattsburg. Or, maybe you're one of the lucky owners driving one. Either way, if the new Nissan JUKE has caught you're eye, you'll be eager to know the Japanese automaker has just unveiled a new variant, developed in collaboration with Nismo (Nissan's tuning arm), at the Tokyo Motor Show: the Nissan JUKE Nismo Concept.

The operative word is, of course, "Concept". However, given the deluge of positive attention the Nissan JUKE Nismo Concept garnered at the show, word on the street has it that Nissan might just bring the high-performance JUKE to showrooms (i.e., Freedom Nissan of South Burlington), in 2013.

The new JUKE Nismo Concept breaks so many rules of the B-segment, Nissan couldn't resist divulging some of the details before the show. Among the many details served up to whet drivers' appetite for the new concept include: redesigned body and interior elements (i.e., sill side skirts, rear spoiler, grille and fenders); lower, road-hugging suspension; wider don't-mess-with-me stance; race-inspired bucket seats and larger 19-inch wheels (two inches bigger than the current Nissan JUKE you'll find at Freedom Nissan in South Burlington). But, it isn't just the looks of the Nissan JUKE Nismo concept that will spike your adrenaline. With Nismo obsessing over engine components the CUV will play the part just as well.

Exactly how much power does the Nissan JUKE Nismo Concept put out? That was one answer Nissan did not reveal in their pre-show tease, which we were hoping to garner from the show. Unfortunately, such information was not released there, either.

Shoichi Miyatani, Nismo President explains why. "If we concentrate on going for high-performance then it could take years, but if we compromise slightly on performance it could take one year," he says.1 Essentially, they won't settle on horsepower and torque, until a firm ETA is set. That said, it will deliver substantially more horsepower than the new Nissan JUKE out now and likely less than the Nissan JUKE-R Concept, which is said to pump out close to 500 hp.

And remember, if you don't want to wait for a stand-out CUV - you don't have to. Simply come down and take the 2012 Nissan JUKE for a test drive.
