Nissan is joining forces with Cummins, a major manufacturer of diesel engines in the U.S. to bring cutting-edge fuel-efficient technology to the half-ton pickup truck market. Specifically, the two companies, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, are working to develop a ground-breaking 220-horsepower (hp), turbocharged 2.8-liter inline-four-cylinder diesel engine.

The Rogue crossover is one of Nissan Motor Co.'s highest-volume production vehicles. And production will soon move from Japan to America, specifically a factory in Smryna, Tennessee. The move coincides with the automaker's scheduled redesign of the Rogue in 2013, at which point the Tennessee assembly plant is expected to put out 100,000 units of the Rogue per year.
